V.I. Abaev on the features of the Nart tales of Ossetian
Abstract. V.I. Abaev's works contain a detailed study of this issue. The scholar reveals the reasons for the
interethnic areal commonality and similarity of the epics, the presence of common elements and similarities
in the Nart tales, as well as significant differences in each version.Certain features of the OssetianNart tales
have been noted in the works of M.S. Tuganov (the depiction of the people's life from beginning to end), I.V.
Dzhanaev (the epic of the entire people, not of an individual hero, the depiction of life in all its glory), and
G.Z. Kaloev (the abundance of independent plots, the clarity of position, etc.).Comparing the Ossetian epic
with the Adyghe, V.I. Abaev noted the main characteristic: the Ossetian tales are characterized by a tribal
system and military democracy, while the Kabardian tales are characterized by feudal systems. The scholar
emphasizes the undeniable characteristics of Ossetian tales, including their content, forms (poetic and
narrative), and high artistic merit.According to the seminal works of renowned Nart scholars, the core of
the Nart epic developed in the world of the northern Iranian tribes of the Scythians, Sarmatians, and Alans

The Caucasus and Its Peoples in the Perception of Svatopluk Čec
Abstract. The article analyses the travelogues and literary writings about the Caucasus written by the Czech
poet and prose writer Svatopluk Čech, which reflect the ethnographic, historical, and cultural aspects of the
region. Influenced by Lermontov and the traditions of Romantic literature, Čech combined personal
impressions with literary sources to create vivid portrayals of the local peoples and the natural landscape of
the Caucasus. The study focuses on the cycles “Memories of the Caucasus” and “Sketches from Colchis,”
short stories from the cycle “Several Pictures from the Caucasus” and the epic poem “The Circassian.” The
article explores the artistic, romantic, and ethnographic dimensions of Čech’s writings, his depiction of
various ethnic groups (Circassians, Ossetians, and Cossacks), and his perception of Russia’s expansion into
the Caucasus. It is noted that some of the author’s historical and ethnographic judgements reflect the
worldview of the 19th century and require critical reassessment. The publication also includes a Russian
translation of the chapters from Čech’s travel notes devoted to Ossetia and the Ossetians, preserving the
terminology of the period.

the city of Vladikavkaz (on the 150th anniversary of the birth of V.I. Rdultovsky)
Abstract. February 10, 2026, marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Iosifovich Rdultovsky
(1876–1939), a distinguished Russian military engineer, professor, and Doctor of Technical Sciences in the
field of artillery ammunition, particularly initiation systems and fuses. His scientific and design work laid
the foundations for domestic ammunition design. He introduced new principles for fuse design and
conducted fundamental research on internal ballistics, detonation, primer sensitivity, and projectile
performance against obstacles. V.I. Rdultovsky made a great contribution to the training of new engineering
personnel for the young Soviet country: he lectured at military academies and headed the ammunition
department at the Leningrad Military Mechanical Institute, now known as the D.F. Ustinov Baltic State
Technical University "VOENMEKH." Under his leadership, a scientific school was formed that trained a
whole galaxy of military specialists who made significant contributions to the development of the country's
artillery technology, including M.F. Vasiliev, E.A. Berkalov, D.N. Vishnevsky, V.K. Ponomarev, G.M.
Tretyakov, and others.

Political Education of Young People in the 1920s: From the History
of Training Soviet Transport Engineers
Abstract. The article examines the forms and methods of political education that were practiced in Soviet
higher education institutions in the 1920s, using the example of the political education of students at the
Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers. The political education of young people at the institute was
carried out through various forms of political and educational work (such as clubs, societies, and mass
events), which were implemented by the institute's party, Komsomol, and public organizations. These forms
of work varied depending on the objectives and structures involved in their implementation. Thematic lines,
as well as the forms of implementation of political and educational activities, were directly dependent on the
political objectives of a particular historical period. In the 1920s, the policy of political education for young
people was not only focused on fostering political culture, but also on instilling loyalty to the Soviet
government among the younger generation. This led to the formation of the necessary forms of social
behavior among young people in the context of the development of an industrial society, in which non-
material incentives for work were a key component. The established system of political education in the
1920s ensured the stable functioning of the political system of the Soviet state.
